there will be only chaos

If there is anything out there in the world that I could complain and moan about it would be the feeling of anticipation. You know when that glorious mass-media good that you are dying to play, watch, read, etc. and you are not even close to the release date and your days just seem to go by slower by the minute and you would do just about ANYTHING to get closer to that special day. Well, in this case I am currently in one of those moments and I truly loathe it. It may be the worst feeling in the world. I’d rather have my hands burnt in a toaster than muster another second of anticipation.

With all this talk, I might as well say what I am highly anticipated here and it is none other than a little small video game called God Of War III set exclusively on the Playstation 3. I can not remember a time when I have wanted a video game so much before. I used to be a hardcore gamer up throgh the ages of like 12 and then I started to focus all my attention on movies and let me just say that waiting for a movie is 1000000x worse than waiting for any other mass-medium good. Take for example The Dark Knight. I was literally jumping off the walls and pulling my hair out… no joke. Now I have this burning desire to play such a jaw-dropping epic game and luckily I only have to wait until tomorrow but that is when the waiting kicks in very hard and you feel like you are in a super-slow motion movie and the waiting never seems to end. The pain is unbearable and when you put college on top of it… well lets just say I am no happy camper.

But in the end, when I finally have my copy of the game it will feel extremely relieving and life just seems to brighten up a bit. Writing this blog actually managed to sustain the pain for a little bit but as I finish up the final touches to this rant. The everlasting waiting continues and I am left in a corner while it is dark all by myself crawled in a little ball. Okay, I was having a bit too much fun at that last part but in all seriousness though I will be left tormented and beaten to the point of anxiety and in the end there will be only chaos.

Anti-intellectualism

i have read the essay “Anti-intellectualism” by Grant Penrod and i am not very impressed with the way he wrote it but i do agree with parts that seemed reasonable.

I do agree with him that “nerds” are most likely not to be remembered unlike the appearances of extremely popular people who were less educated. I find that if you do indeed get perfect scores on every one of your tests including the SAT, ACT, or any other three letter test, then you are classified as a nerd and have no life because you are not out there getting experience in real life situations that are very important to know when it comes to living outside of home. People need to broaden their skills to other aspects instead of just school. I am not saying school is not important because now a days it very much is because of the population growing and the competition is harder than it has ever been. It was easy for big name actors like Al Pacino to just drop out of school and go straight into acting because that time period was a complete 180 of what it is today. back then not everyone wanted to be a celebrity and now…well look around you.

I think it really boils down to this. You either have it or you dont. It is as simple as that. Celebrities are famous for a reason and it is because they have a talent that a lot of people can not pull off. It is our fault for making them famous in the first place by giving them feedback. If the people of the United States of America recognize certain figures and start making claims of these people, then we have no one to blame but ourselves because we are the ones throwing our money at them and giving them our attention. If nothing gets attention then it dies down and people will forget about them.

As far as the authors sources go. They seem to match up with the content of the essay and i dont really see a problem. He talks about how SOMETIMES not going to school will end up getting you richer than staying in school which is the case in SOME people. Not all.

What Pittsburgh Lacks?

Living in Pittsburgh for 4 months has giving me enough time to evaluate on what things i like and what things i do not like. This post is solely dedicated to the things that i hate the most in this city and i have three things to nitpick about.

I general am a very kind person and it takes a lot to really set my blood pressure really high but the one major beef that I have with this city more than anything is the amount of complainers that i have met here. They make my stay here in Pittsburgh worse and it makes me very irriatated. I am sick and tired of people and their dramas that go on in their lives and i honestly could care less but it gets to the point where it is excruciating. Most of these people i am talking about go to the art institute of pittsburgh. I dont mind the school and i believe i can prove my skills here to make a nice future out of myself because i have confidence but a lot of people here have little to no confidence in themselves and they give up very quickly, now them giving up is not my problem because i know for a lot of people that this is not the school for them but the things that they tell me are just absolutely meaningless and stupid. I hope that this goes away in the future because the quarters start to get more intense and the students who enjoy the school stay. I also see a lot of people here who dress like it is halloween everyday which makes me feel out of place because i dress the total opposite.

The parking. pretty much all major cities have this problem but i am beginning to notice it and it is pretty annoying. you have to pay to park which just adds on to the long list of things that could be going wrong in my life.

not many clubs to attend. I am underage and just about every single club here is only 21 and older which is kinda a let down for me.

I dont have much to complain about because i really do love this city and i feel comfortable around my surroundings.

Thats not you?

I see this guys almost everyday of my life and all i can think of is how ugly and unattractive he is. He is so pale and comes off as an albino. He is extremely obese and everytime i see him eat his meal i want to vomit. he practically comes off as a child and is very short and him being obese does not help him meet new friends. All my friends look at him and laugh at how he dresses because he dresses like a complete slob. He wears a plain T-shirt with holes in it and wears the most uninteresting jeans immaginable. He practically has no hair on his body or face. He is completely bald, no facial hair, no hair on his arms. He is absolutely 100% hairless. Sometimes i think he is a monster rather than a human being because his eyes are completely white and very scary. I wait for the moment where he picks up a baby and swallows it whole…no joke.

Not only his his looks atrocious but his hygeine is even worse. He smells like he just dived in a puddle of diarrhea, came out and covered himself with butter. I can not stand his smell and it drives me insane which he defentely is.

To top it all off, his personality is beyond cruel. He insults everyone he sees and makes fun of everyone. He is an extremely angry person and attacks anybody who even speaks to him. I am very scared to even say hi to the person because im afraid he will just punch my head clean off. When he is not in school he stays inside all day and plays video games. he does not even get up to go to the bathroom.

with all this negativity, there has to be at least some positives with this guy and i can assure you he is very talented in this one thing and i must say he can make a living doing it and that is playing music. He is so extremly amazing at anything involving music. I am a big fan of beethoven and i must say he surpasses beethoven in every aspect imaginable. Not only that but he is insanely good at the drums. He also has the voice of an angel when it comes to singing and to put the icing on the cake, He can play a guitar with one hand while doing a hand stand. that is true talent if you ask me.

so many places?

For as little time as I have spent so far here in Pittsburgh which is the equivalent to about 4 months, I have a strong feeling that I know a good amount of places here in this very fine city that I live in. But, when it comes down to writing about a specific place, I have many that come to my mind.

I noticed that there are quite a few theatres in the city that I have not been able to catch yet which are the Harris Theatre and the Byham theatre. The one that I really want to know is the Harris because I heard that is the theatre were Pittsburgh films get to premiere on the big screen there so I would love to get to know that facility more so I can get familiar with the films here in the city.

E Carson street is probably my favorite street I have ever been on in my life so far and I would love to write about a significant place that runs on their. I am not too sure what place but I would love to get the history that happens on E Carson street.

I am very fond of the Cheesecake factory on South Side that is absolutely gorgeous in my opinion. I want to know their secret ingredient in making such exquisite tastes.

When I went to the waterfront I thoroughly enjoyed all the time that I spent there because there is just so much to explore in that area and one place that I was very curious about. I do not remember the name but every weekend, this place gets a famous comedian from the United State and they perform live in what appears to be a very chill and relaxing place. I would absolutely love to sit down and watch a famous comedian tell me jokes. It just sound like a great time.

I walk through the mall in Station square just about once every so often but I never got to really know what goes on in the place.  That earns a high spot in possible ideas to write because it is close by and seems like it has quite the history.

There are many things to write about but I am still unsure what I want to choose. Which do you think I should write mine on?

What Am I Describing?

I am going to talk about a historic landmark here in Pittsburgh and I will give you clues as to what the place could be. Without further ado, let’s begin!
In 1873, the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad was first chartered in 1877. In 1879, the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad officially opened for commercial traffic and later became known as the Little Giant for the amount of tonnage that it moved. After World War II, the place had begun to become lonely and the companies facility was in no need to help anything.

This historic landmark was now in danger of becoming extinct to mankind but the P&LE had developed the place for new uses to the public. They had developed hotels and parking areas and about 19 years of construction to this area, It had now become a major area to hang out, eat, party, and go to get some Steelers clothes.

It also supports what used to be a Pittsburgh Terminal train station that was built in 1900 but today, the historic building is being used to home famous restaurants and wardrobe along with a cigar shop. This place becomes a party house on Friday and Saturday night. It has a rather large water fountain in the middle of the place that lights up and plays music during shows that it performs whenever the weather is appropriate. It is across one of the bridges from the city area of Pittsburgh. Boats and such depart and arrive near this area. It also supports an incline that takes you up to Mount Washington. This place also has a large steel pot that is near the water fountain. It is approximately a 52 acre playground. What historic landmark am I?

My visions of Pittsburgh before I moved here

I always envisioned Pittsburgh as a far more superior city than Clevand, Ohio(which i grew up by). I thought that the city would be cleaner, safer, and overall a more productive environment to live in. I looked at pictures of Pittsburgh and was extremely impressed with how the city looked and thought that it would be a great place to live in and even raise a family if it came to that. I honestly dont remember seeing Pittsburgh in movies, books, or newspapers but i remember visiting Pittsburgh once and i clearly remember it being very colorful and larger than life. I wanted to grasp the city at the time but couldnt because i was only there for a measly 2 days. I left with a very good first impression and it also had a great impact on my descision to come to school here.

Well I now officially live here and i must say that I am rather impressed with the city just the way I thought it was going to be. It is a clean, safe, and it is a productive environment to live in. I never find myself bored and i am always doing stuff that i love to do. I have encountered more interesting things here then i have ever encountered in my hometown. To name such topics is I got the chance to catch Paul Haggis new film being shot right near my dorm however it was only second unit but it was still great to watch them set of their track shots, look at the 35mm cameras, and see some action happening. I love E Carson street because of the vast amounts of places to go to. I will be spending a good amount of time there. I am a huge movie buff and when i got to see the AMC Loews Waterfront, I just about died with pure excitement. The interior design in that building is just beyond amazing with its over-sized conession area, giant sized pillars, bar/resturaunt, and not mention the big screens themselves. The sound just about blew my socks off, the picture quality was top-notch and not to mention that they have an IMAX in there too.

I look forward to my next couple of years here because these will be the most important and productive years of my life and will also determine whether how well or not well i am good at my job which is filmmaking. The city will increase the quality of my films and I honestly can not wait to see what I come up with here. I am pumped to the tip top of my abilities to shine my creative skills to the audience.

Top 10 movies of 2009

Before I begin my list of the top ten movies of 2009, I want to say a quick summary of what i thought this year was good for and how it compares to other years in the cinema world. Just like all the other years in movies, it begins off rather distasteful and bitter but as it further progresses down the road, it gradually gets better. The summer movies of 2009 as a whole were a lot more satisfying than 2008 because that summer only had two truly great and wonderful movies that made it into my top 10 of 2008(The Dark Knight and Wall-E). 2009 had the upper hand with an astonishing five movies that I will get into later because i do not want to spoil it for you too soon. Now comes Oscar time and i feel happier with 2009 a lot more than i was with 2008. 2008 still had some really amazing movies but i feel 2009 stepped it up in terms of satisfaction because there is a movie for everyone to root for come Oscar time instead of people not knowing what the hell is even nominated. Not only was 2009 a really great year for movies but it was also a record breaker in terms of people attending movies. It made a remarkable $10.6 billion and in the process shattering every other yearly record that was set before it. This was the year where originality really took place and fresh new takes on cinema sky-rocketed into the terms of, dare I say it… “Revolutionary.” Now lets take a look at the movies that deeply affected me and had a fresh new take on films.

10. The Hurt Locker

Why it’s so great? The Hurt Locker is the very first Iraq war movie to achieve such success. The movie relies very heavily on character development and how they interact with each other during heated situations. It is a nail-biting, edge of your seat suspense action with a lot of meaning and heart. With a few recognizable cameos and a powerful performance by the lead Jeremy Renner, The Hurt Locker is one of the years finest and well made movies of the year. The best part of it all is that a women (Kathryn Bigelow) directed this instead of a man, which in my opinion is outstanding and shows that women directors are just as talented as any man director.

9. Zombieland

Why it’s so great? Zombieland had many elements as to how a movie should be done and the movie just about completes all those tasks. It is extremely creative, it has a very fresh and original plot where we also can relate to the highly likable characters. The action is very fun to watch and not to mention that this movie is downright 100% absolutely positively hysterical. I laughed very hard through the whole thing and the one benefit that Zombieland has that no other movie in the world is one memorable cameo that goes down as one of the best in the history of film.

8. Precious

Why it’s so great? the one thing that i really love about these super-powerful dramas is that they tend to be filled with phenomenal performances and this is surely one of them. One in particular is Mo’Nique who plays an abusive mother and I honestly still have trouble to this day saying to myself “Was that really Mo’Nique?” She delivers a powerhouse of a performance and i am still shocked to this day that Mo’Nique, who also starred in such bad films as Phat Girlz and delivered some of the worst performances of the lifetime, is delivering us one of the finest and most exeptional performances of a lifetime. Bravo Mo’Nique, I did not think you had it in you.

7. The Hangover

Why it’s so great? The Hangover is a very original movie and i come to really like that when it comes to films. Sometimes though when a movie is original it can have the tendency to fail due to poor performances, non-adventurous and overall just not that funny in general but every once in a while there comes a movie that is original, adventurous, hysterical, clever, and has a great cast, The Hangover is one of those movies and it sure damn delivers on every front in a way I have never seen comedies before. I believe that as the years come by the comedy genre will have deeply been affected by The Hangover as we will see a bunch of shamelessly lousy rip-offs just to make profit for the studio.

6. Fantastic Mr. Fox

Why it’s so great? Fantastic Mr. Fox has a lot of soul to it and I come to love that in a movie. Whats really fascinating about this movie though is that it is all stop-motion animation which i come to really love in a movie if it is done right and this movie surely did it right. I felt more human emotion with this movie than I have ever felt with a live-action movie. To top it all off, it also has some of the finest voice recording work to date with the thanks of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, and many others. It was a fantastic stylish movie with a lot of meaning and soul and i could watch this movie any time of the day.

5. Up In The Air

Why it’s so great? I am really starting to love George Clooney and his acting abilities because he is on fire and so is this movie. It has this very articulate pace to it and at times it has heart-warming comedy but the main reason why this movie is so great is because of the scriptwriting, which is just about perfect I must say.

4. Up

Why it’s so great? Up is a wonderful movie with just about everything mixed into it. It has comedy, adventure, action, drama, and most of all it has a heart. I fell in love with this movie mainly due to the characters and the creative adventures that they go through. I think that the plot is very original and the ending could not have been any better. I loved this movie from start to finish and can not complain about anything that went wrong because nothing went wrong. It’s a fine film that’s for sure.

3. District 9

Why it’s so great? WOW!! is all i can really say with this very fine film. I have a huge weakness for sci-fi action movies and when you throw in a completely original plot, realistic characters, great acting, creative film techniques, exceptional CGI and special effects work, great action and then you have movie that will blow your mind away and i can safely say my mind was blown. The best part of it all is that the film only cost $30 million to make and it honestly looks like it cost at least in the $100 mill range.

2. Avatar

Why it’s so great? Usually i do not like movies that are not completely original and the dialogue comes out less than fair but there is always an exception and that exception is Avatar. Sure it was pretty much like Dances with Wolves but only with a green screen but so what? Sure the dialogue could have been a whole lot better but so what? Avatar has so many other great things going for it that in the overall manner the experience is what counts and i must say that Avatar in 3D at a midnight show was easily one of the greatest movie experiences of my life. The visuals is what really got me in this movie because they are hands down the best and the absolute best I have ever seen on the big screen. The filmmaking is superb and the human interaction with one another is very heart-warming. Throw in some amazing action to the mix and we have a revolutionary groundbreaking film that will change the course of cinema 10 years from now. Just wait and see.

1. Inglorious Basterds

Why its so great? “This just might be my masterpiece.” is what Lt. Aldo Raine says at the end of the movie right before Written and Directed by Quentin Tarantino pop up on the screen and i must say that this is hands down a masterpiece on every account. It is a perfect film with so many things to root for. I’ll begin with the dialogue because nobody can write dialogue like Quentin and he is so clever at doing it. Ever piece of line that is spoken is pure genius coming from the characters. I absolutely adored all the characters especially Hanz Landa played by Christoph Waltz who comes off as pure evil genius and will go down as one of the greatest performers of the decade. Not to mention that this movie is completely original in every way shape or form and that is a huge win in my book. Bravo Mr. Tarantino for bringing us the finest and absolute best film of 2009 and also one of the best in the history of movies.
